With this deal and Spotify’s acquisition of podcast producer Anchor, the company is signaling its intention to branch out of the music streaming business. In a contrast to The Ringer deal, though, employees moved to unionize about a month after the transaction. Gimlet Media is the developer of a digital media platform that produces podcasts and enables listeners to engage in the podcasting community. Spotify’s reportedly 230 million Gimlet Media buyout, for its part, arrived in 2019. Gunderson Dettmer client Gimlet Media was acquired by Spotify. Gimlet, the podcast Reply All, and parent company Spotify have gone through a reckoning that’s led to the podcast going on pause and two hosts stepping down after releasing its Test Kitchen.
